Karate
A Japanese martial art of strikes, forms and discipline, taught from childhood.
About this sport
Karate is a Japanese martial art built around three pillars: kihon, the fundamental techniques of strikes, blocks and kicks; kata, codified sequences of movements; and kumite, controlled sparring. Teaching follows a belt progression that marks the practitioner's path from beginner to advanced grades. Karate places strong emphasis on respect, discipline and self-control, which makes it a popular choice for children, for whom clubs offer age-adapted classes. Adults can start at any age and progress at their own pace. Training develops coordination, flexibility, precision and conditioning. Morocco has one of the strongest karate traditions in Africa, with a structured federation, clubs in almost every city and national teams that perform internationally. Finding a qualified coach nearby is therefore easy, from neighborhood dojos to competition-oriented clubs.
